A county councillor has opposed an application to build a hotel and supermarket in a car park.

Hertfordshire County Councillor Caroline Clapper, who represents the Radlett ward in both the county council and Hertsmere Borough Council, has spoken out about the proposed development in Newberries Car Park, in Radlett.

The proposed development of an 80-bedroom Travelodge and a Marks and Spencer food store in the Newberries Car Park has been opposed by the Radlett community since January last year.

In a Facebook post on the Radlett Village group, Cllr Clapper said: "I strongly believe that Radlett residents and businesses should have a big say in any major development proposed for our village.

"I propose to make that case to the council and see what can be done to bring all sides together to seek to work for the ongoing and long term future success of Radlett.

"I will do whatever it takes to ensure we achieve an outcome in the best interests of the residents of Radlett. The more support I have on this the better the case I can make to the council, so please do contact me with your thoughts and views."

Cllr Clapper, who sits on Hertsmere's planning committee, stepped down in order to represent the Radlett community.
