Students commemorated a former pupil who died while serving in World War One.

Pupils at the Royal Masonic School for Girls held a special assembly in the chapel for Dorothy Mortimer Watson, who died on March 13, 1917.

Dorothy left the school in 1904 and was killed while working as an army nurse in Malta.

Guests at the assembly included Sue Bush, Colonel Commandment at Territorial Force Nursing Service, and another former pupil, Anne Grimwood, who was also once at Colonel Commandment at the service.

Col Bush said: “"It was an honour to be included in this event and represent Army Nurses,” and Mrs Grimwood added: "The event commemorated the life and service of Dorothy Mortimer Watson and she is now rightly recognised."

The school has added a plaque in the chapel to commemorate Dorothy.
