Plans for 400 new homes in Tolpits Lane have been unanimously rejected.

Three Rivers district councillors rejected the plans, which also included a swimming pool, supermarket, rooftop garden and a gym, at a planning meeting last night.

They said the location of the development was inappropriate and the area would be overdeveloped if the plans were approved.

This is the second time the developer R Square Properties has failed to get planning permission. They submitted similar plans in 2015, but planning officers recommended they should be refused and the application was withdrawn shortly after.

R Square Properties did not send a representative to last night's meeting.

Peter Getkahn, a Three Rivers district councillor and planning committee member, said: “Everyone was in agreement that this development could not be granted planning permission.

“It was completely inappropriate for the area and would never have fit in here."
