An elderly woman’s garden was transformed by children from a Colindale primary school.
Irene Farrell, 92, had her garden transformed by six children from the Orion Primary school on Grahame Park Way on Thursday, 9 March, organised by their teacher who had befriended Mrs Farrell through Barnet Age UK.
Michelle McDonald organised cinema nights through the school to raise money for fresh soil and plants, before bring the children and the school’s caretaker to the house on the Grahame Park Estate.
Ms McDonald said: “The children loved meeting Irene where she talked all about her life and gave them an important message in life: to never quarrel.
“Irene got her wish and the children felt a sense of community spirit and a great sense of achievement and accomplishment.”
The children cleared leaves and overgrown hedges and vines, before planting five hanging baskets and replanting bulbs and plants.
