THE FAMILY of the police officer murdered in the Westminster terror attack say they have been “overwhelmed by love and support” since his death.

PC Keith Palmer died on Wednesday afternoon (March 25) after attacker Khalid Masood stabbed him as he stood on duty outside Westminster Palace.

The 52-year-old was shot dead by police after he drove into people on Westminster Bridge and attacked PC Palmer, ultimately killing four people.

Over £700,000 has been donated to PC Palmer’s family through a JustGiving crowdfunding page.

In a statement last night (March 25), his family said: "We have been overwhelmed by the love and support for our family, and most especially, the outpouring of love and respect for our Keith.

“We miss him so much, but we are also incredibly proud of him.”

They thanked those who tried to save him, including MP for Bournemouth Tobias Ellwood, saying there was “nothing more they could have done”.

They added: “We would also like to express our gratitude to the people who were with Keith in his last moments and who were working that day.

"You did your best and we are just grateful he was not alone. We care about him being remembered for his selfless bravery and loving nature.

“We want to thank everyone who has reached out to us over the past few days for their kindness and generosity.

“The police have been a constant, unwavering support at this very difficult time.

"It has made us realise what a caring, strong and supportive family Keith was part of during his career with the police. We can't thank them enough."

The Metropolitan Police’s counter terrorism demand yesterday claimed they believe the shocking attack lasted just 82 seconds.

They believe Masood acted alone, but are still working to see if he was inspired by terrorist propaganda.
