The new commissioner of the Metropolitan Police attended a parade in Hendon on Friday to welcome new officers.

Commissioner Cressida Dick attended the Passing-Out Parade in Hendon, where trainee police officers transition to probationers and march to music performed by the parachute regiment, before performing drills.

The ceremony has taken place since 1934 at the training centre in Hendon, with this year’s ceremony seeing 88 new recruits joining the service.

Commissioner Cressida Dick said: “It is an honour to serve London, and in what I believe is a fantastic job to do so.

"The Metropolitan Police Service has a rich history and has a global reputation for its high standards in serving the public, of which these officers will now become a part of.

“I was first a police constable over 30 years ago at Hendon, which I remember well for all the support and encouragement I received - these officers indeed, have a very promising future ahead."

The commissioner also awarded top performing students after offering words of wisdom to the new recruits.
