Barnet UKIP's chairman has resigned to work for the Donald Trump's party in the USA.

Byron Sanford released a statement on April 18 that he would be resigning as chairman of UKIP for Barnet and Hendon to work on campaigns for the Republican National Committee in Omaha, Nebraska.

Mr Sanford also spoke out of his worries for the future of UKIP in the snap election on June 8, saying he did not believe the party has the "necessary funds to contest".

He said: "UKIP has failed to adhere to the manifesto. We are unfortunately no longer a libertarian party."

He added: "I have just consulted with members and supporters in Barnet who have told me they plan on voting for the Tories. I find this concerning."

Mr Sanford interviewed with the co-chairman of the RNC in March to work as part of the mayoral campaign in Omaha, before deciding to stay on to continue campaigning in the States.

Mr Sanford also said he would not work on an election without a salary.

UKIP spokesman Gawain Towler said: "We understand Mr Sanford has got a job in the States and we wish him well.

It has always been the case that a key aspect of a local chairman's role is to raise funds, so he will know how the finances of his own branch are faring."

UKIP are yet to announce their three Barnet candidates for the general election.
