TEENAGERS love to argue - and these proved no exception when they took part in a national debating competition.

Chigwell School, in High Road, took part in the Rotary Youth Speaks national finals in Shropshire on Sunday, May 7.

They debated a range of topics, including disability.

The competition was split up into two sections, Intermediate and Senior.

Chigwell School’s team was the youngest team in the senior section, yet still managed to secure an impressive 3rd place. The team was made up of Christopher Collins, Matilda Scarborough and Ziyad Chaudary. Christopher Collins, who spoke about the role of the Monarchy in the 21st Century, was awarded best speaker. Matilda Scarborough acted as the chairperson and Ziyad Chaudhary, the vote of thanks.

Mr Roderick Lonsdale, Chigwell English teacher, commented: “It was a great team effort”
