A man with learning difficulties has celebrated his 100th birthday in style.

Joseph Alabani celebrated hitting triple figures with a party on Friday, May 12.

Born 100 years ago in Cairo, Joseph lived in Alexandria with his Maltese family until 1956 when all British subjects were expelled from Egypt.

Throughout his life he was cared for by his mother and sister Adeline understanding Maltese, Italian and French and enjoyed going on holidays with his family and family friends.

He is a devout Roman Catholic who attended Mass every Sunday and could memorise every significant date in his faith’s calendar.

Joseph moved into Villa Scalabrini in January 2012 after his sister became too frail to look after him.

Adeline, 98, joined him in residence at the care home in 2015, and Joseph was overjoyed to be reunited with his sister again.

Although he is now in a wheelchair he enjoys playing bingo, watching TV and the music at the care home.

He cannot believe that he is 100 years-old and is delighted to have received a telegram from the Queen.
