Barnet Police has moved focus to "getting as much uniformed presence out on the street as possible" after Monday's terror attack in Manchester.

Barnet Police's Chief Superintendent Simon Rose has called on neighbours "to be alert but not alarmed" as the service has increased the number of officers on the streets after a bomb exploded in Manchester Arena on Monday.

This also comes as Brent Cross shopping centre experienced long queues of shoppers attempting to gain entry as their bags were searched at the door.

He said: "We are working with Brent Cross, putting extra officers there on mobile patrols to support the centre in the activation of their well-tested plan to respond to the raised threat.

"This includes additional traffic management, searching as a condition of entry, the purpose of which is to make the Brent Cross safe."

Mr Rose said the service will be focusing on "high visibility at crowded places and transport hubs" and that Barnet is likely to receive a greater armed response while the military have freed up armed officers in the centre of London.

He continued: "We will be engaging with the Muslim communities of Barnet who I understand will be feeling particularly vulnerable at this time and ensuring we are as proactive and robust pursuing any reported hate crime. ”
