Matthew Offord has kept hold of his seat as Conservative MP for Hendon.

Mr Offord fought off stiff competition in an incredibly close vote in the area, with less than 1,000 votes in it between him and Labour candidate Mike Katz.

His win was far closer this time aroundthan in 2015, where he beat Labour candidate Andrew Dismore by around 3,500 votes, compared to this year's margin, which is only just over 1,000 votes.

Mr Offord said that seven years of hard work for the people of Hendon has kept him in place.

He said: “We identified key issues that related to people such as business rates, funding for education and issues around air quality, which I will be putting to Parliament.”

Mr Offord took 25,078 votes to Mr Katz’s 24,006 and a recount meant candidates were waiting a long way into the morning for the result.

Liberal Democrats almost doubled their take in Hendon with 1,985 for Alasdair Hill, while Green Party’s Carmen Legarda took 578 votes and Sabriye Warsame of UKIP took 568 votes.

Mr Katz said that the country is calling out for change as he conceded defeat, as is seen in the hung parliament results.
