A famed composer and performer sents gifts and words of encouragement to a school in Mill Hill.

The pupils of Goodwyn Independent Prep School, Hammers Lane, Mill Hill received goodies from Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, composer of the musical Cats, and an email from Elaine Page, who originated the role of Grizabella in the musical.

The tokens were sent in honour of the school’s Topic Week, culminating in Topic Day where pupils don costumes and parade through the streets to celebrate their learning.

Year Three chose Cats the Musical as their topic which formed the base of their learning throughout the week.

Ms Page wrote: “Wishing you all the very best of luck with Cats on Friday.

“I hope you have a “jellical ball.” Sing out, have fun, you’ll be purrfect.”

Mr Lloyd Webber sent t-shirts, necklaces and other gifts for the children to sport in their parade, along with a star from the UK tour of Cats, Dane Quixall.

Year Three pupil Charlie Joseph said: “We all wrote a wonderful letter to Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber asking him to visit the school.

He hasn’t made it yet but we were visited by Dane, which was so interesting and we learnt so much by asking him lots of questions.”
