Oliver Dowden returned to his Westminster office following Thursday’s General Election as the MP for Hertsmere.
More than half of votes cast went to the incumbent politician and he vowed to work hard to tackle the problems with commuter links to his hometown while pledging to help small businesses and schools.
He also reflected on the national picture, which saw Prime Minister Theresa May lose a Conservative majority and leaving the country with a hung parliament.
Mr Dowden said: “I was honoured and delighted to be re-elected as Hertsmere’s Member of Parliament.
“I want to thank the people of Borehamwood for the continued support they have shown me. Over the coming months and years I will work to repay that faith.
“As a commuter, I know how frustrated people are by Thameslink’s failings and I will keep up the pressure on them to deliver a better service.
“Equally, I am continuing my wider campaigns to secure improved local infrastructure, support our small businesses and help our schools.
“Nationally, this was of course not the result we wanted and we need to reflect on that.
“But at this time of national security challenges and crucial Brexit negotiations, it is right that the Prime Minister has sought to form a government in the national interest.”
