A Finchley triathlete was honoured for raising more than £5,000 for a blood cancer charity.

Daryl Seaton, 44, won the top triathlon fundraiser award on June 4 for raising £5,175 for blood cancer charity Bloodwise.

Mr Seaton completed the Blenheim Palace Triathlon’s sprint course in 1:42, with this being the first time he donned a wetsuit to swim in open water.

He said: “The event itself was a really great experience, from the atmosphere, to seeing family and friends along the route.

“I was really honoured and humbled by the generous donations from those who supported me, and delighted, on their collective behalf, to be chosen to pick up the award.”

The award was presented on the podium at Blenheim Palace by the charity’s head of sport Matt Lawley, who said they hope to welcome him back at next year’s event.

Bloodwise is set to raise £300,000 from fundraisers at the triathlon this year, which goes towards research into leukaemia, myeloma and other blood cancers.
