A private school has been criticised for its safeguarding of its children in another Ofsted inspection.

The report stated the Rudolf Steiner School, Kings Langley “does not meet all of the independent school standards” following an inspection on May 23 and 24.

The institution came under fire earlier after a surprise Ofsted inspection in February deemed it was not safe for children.

The school leader was criticised for relying too heavily on the solicitor’s advice when making safeguarding decisions, for not completing pre-employment checks on staff and for not maintaining professional boundaries between pupils, staff and teachers.

The report stated: “Leaders have failed to ensure that information relating to child protection is retained in line with the rules on retention of data promulgated by the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.

“They have failed to take proper steps to save the email accounts of former staff, including those of one former leader for safeguarding.”

Concerns have been raised over the school after a teacher was suspended amid claims of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ in February 2016.

The body that usually regulates independent schools is the School Inspection Service (SIS), but following their inspection in 2016 the Department of Education (DOE) ordered Ofsted make a snap inspection in November of that year.

In March the Department of Education placed a ban on the school admitting new pupils.

School spokesman Chris Triplett said: “Last month the school underwent a follow-up Ofsted inspection and whilst there had been marked improvement, regrettably there are some areas which require further time and attention.

“The school’s management team takes the failings outlined in this report very seriously and remains fully committed to bringing the school into alignment with all the Independent School Standards.

“In response to this Ofsted report the school is preparing a School Improvement Plan that will address the relevant educational issues quickly and effectively.

“The trustees and staff of the Rudolf Steiner School Kings Langley remain fully committed to providing pupils with an education that leaves them with the confidence to impart purpose and direction to their lives.”

The Department of Education has been contacted for comment.
