A boys' school will be accepting girls from September 2018 after a vote from governors.
Governors of Christ's College, East End Road, Finchley, voted in favour of converting the school into a co-educational school.
A recent public consultation into the decision showed widespread support of the proposal, with two-thirds of parents and residents voting in favour of the change.
Headteacher Samson Olusanya said: "It is very clear that this decision will help us to achieve our objective of ensuring the development of Christ’s College Finchley into a world-class secondary school where students enjoy an education which provides academic rigour, cultural and personal enrichment and engenders a joy for acquisition of knowledge and skills."
Labour councillors also praised the decision, with Cllr Arjun Mittra saying this will benefit children in the area and lessen pressure on nearby Archer Academy.
He said: " I think there are going to be an awful lot of relieved parents, who find it very stressful thinking about which secondary school their children will be going to."
