A proposal to open a new budget supermarket in East Barnet has been put forward to residents.

Residents were sent a questionnaire from retailer Aldi, showing images of an artist's impression of a new store.

The store, which is proposed to be built on Brookhill Road, and will contain 1,059 square feet of retail space and provide 40-50 jobs for people living nearby.

One resident, Charles Vald, said: "It sounds like a good idea, it will give us even more choice but I do have concerns over the extra congestion."

Residents have been asked in the leaflet to fill out a small questionnaire and try out four weeks of shopping at the nearby store in Ballards Lane, Finchley in a "swap and save" challenge, to test the store's offerings.

The area already has a large Sainsbury's store off the main stretch and a number of smaller shops, including Tesco Express, in close proximity.

The proposed Aldi store will also have 60 parking spaces and room to park bicycles.
