A pub is on the hunt to find its first “genius” to design a new gin cocktail to be added to their menu.

The Battle Axes pub, Butterfly Lane will give the winning mixologist £500, the title and honour of becoming the pub’s first ginius and a year’s supply of gin.

To be named champion the candidate will have to know their junipers, to be able to decipher a Gordon’s from Hendricks as well as demonstrating a passion for the spirit.

Battle Axes general manager Amanda Sherwin said: “Whether you prefer a slice of lime, a dash of cordial or a splash of fruit liqueur, tell us why you think you deserve to be our resident gin advisor and you could bag yourself the ultimate gin-lover’s prize - as well as the title of Chef and Brewer’s first official ‘Gin-ius.”

The competition will take place on the week commencing Monday, 28 August, when contestants will be challenged to make a unique gin tipple.

This is part of the pub’s summer festival where Bombay, Hendricks and Warner Edwards rhubarb gin are on offer for guests refreshment.
