A recent survey shows Barnet residents are more satisfied with the council and their area overall than the London average.

The latest Residents' Perception Survey revealed 82 per cent are happy with their area, with nine out of 10 saying they help neighbours and other saying they believe people pull together to bring about improvements in the area.

The satisfaction with the area and the council was rated higher than the London average in most categories.

But residents also raised concerns about the condition of roads and pavements along with crime and the lack of affordable housing, with housing remaining a theme from the autumn 2016 survey.

While people have perceived many of Barnet Council's "reputation measures" in a similar light as in autumn 2016, only 33 per cent of people surveyed believe the council has been doing a better job than a year ago, which is a lower percentage than in the autumn survey.

Cllr Richard Cornelius, Leader of Barnet Council, said: "The majority of residents remain happy with what the council is doing which is very good to see.

"I am also very pleased to see that satisfaction across our universal services has risen over the last 12 months, including high levels of satisfaction with things such as waste collection and our parks.

"As always this survey provides us with a valuable insight about where to focus our efforts. This is why we continue to make significant investments into improving our roads and pavements and ensuring more homes are built across the borough."

With regards points relating specifically to the council, 45 per cent of those surveyed believe the council is good value for money and 62 per cent said the council were "trustworthy", while 70 per cent of people are satisfied with the way the council run things overall.

Only 31 per cent of people felt the council were good at getting people into work and half believe the council are good at fixing financial problems it encounters, while almost three quarters of those surveyed were happy with the cleaning and green services provided by the council.
