After months of hard work, a club helping those with dementia is successfully up and running.

The launch of the Dementia Club UK (DCUK) in Borehamwood took place in Fairway Hall on Tuesday, July 11.

About 70 guests attended the event including DCUK CEO Lisa Rutter, Deputy Lietenant of Hertfordshire Stuart Nagler, and Hertsmere Borough Mayor Cllr Charles Goldstein, councillors, rotarians and volunteers.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council Cllr Eric and Mrs Evelyn Silver were also in attendance and have chosen DCUK as the mayor’s chosen charity this year.

The group is working in partnership with the Rotary Club of Elstree and Borehamwood and it is also supported by this year’s newly elected rotary president Sasha Capocci.

A large section of the Barnet Branch of DCUK were also in attendance to show their support for Cllr Sandra Parnell, Cllr Eric Silver, Cllr Pat Strack, Sasha Capocci and Dr Ann Goddard who have set up the group.

Sara Donnelly led guests in some of the chair exercises practiced in the sessions, music was played by the Ionian Clarinet Quartet and refreshments were provided.

The club are appealing for more members and welcome anyone living with someone affected by dementia or memory loss, or anyone who has cared for a dementia sufferer to join in.

The club has been formed over several months with sessions being adjusted to suit the needs of those in attendance.

Sessions are held at Fairway Hall from 2-4pm at Fairway Hall.
