A proposal for a new 11-storey block is in the works for East Finchley.

Barnet Homes has consulted on a plan to build 320 new affordable homes in Prospect Ring, East Finchley, sat between two other buildings nearby.

There have been two consultations held over the development - one in April and another in July, but Daniel Gore, a resident of more than 40 years, is concerned the company are attempting to hide the project from local knowledge.

He said: "Local residents are extremely angry and concerned about the proposal by Barnet Homes to place such a large over-bearing building by the council in an area already densely populated with two existing high rises.

"I think Barnet Homes have also tried to keep this proposal under the radar with many locals not knowing that this project is potentially in the works."

Mr Gore also complained that feedback from the first consultation was not carried through into the second, with few changes made to alleviate concerns over the size of the building.

He added: "This whole project is really very concerning to local residents.

"Every single person I spoke to at the meeting said the new proposals were actually worse than the older design in many aspects."

A spokesperson from Barnet Homes said they send letters to 306 addresses "in close proximity" to Prospect Ring, including a local school, and that the follow up consultation in July was based on feedback from earlier meetings with residents.

The spokesperson said: "At the July consultation event there was a mixed reaction from residents at the consultation event we had recently in relation to the proposed building and the changes to the external areas.

"However, the consultation event was very constructive and the feedback from local residents has been very helpful."

They added that Opendoor Homes, the registered provider managing the development, will continue to consult if the application is permitted.

The planning application will be going to Barnet Council planning committee in the Autumn in time for the committee meeting in December.
