An 100-year-old woman celebrated her birthday, singing and dancing with friends and family.

Myrtle Stone, who has lived in Hampstead for most of her life, celebrated her 100th birthday along with family and friends, who all danced and sang along with entertainer Mike Morandi.

Her daughter, Gillian Catto, who lives in Portugal, said: "We had a lot of parties for mum’s birthday, with family and friends at Keat’s House where Myrtle sang at the party.

"It’s wonderful to have everyone here celebrating together, all the family are here from America and the Philippines, my brother David, my son and my daughter Sophie."

Mrs Stone was born on July 12, 1917, in Willesden to a filmmaker who encouraged her to travel widely and be independent.

She married and brought up her children in Hampstead, though moved to Kings Langley with her children during the war whilst her husband stayed in London.

The family watched some of her father's films to celebrate Mrs Stone's birthday, many of which are now at the BFI.

Her granddaughter, Sophie Austin, said: "She is very young in herself - very playful and light hearted.

"She has been through a lot in her lifetime and has had times of physical ill health but always pulled through and is incredible."

Mrs Stone and her husband were involved in fundraising for many years until her husband passed away 34 years ago, and is now a member of the Jewish Care's Michael Sobell Community Centre in Golders Green.

She said: "I can’t believe I’m 100 and I enjoyed seeing everybody at the party."
