Elderly people have been encouraged to get stuck in by recreating famous paintings out of clay.

The residents of Hill House Bupa Care Home, Elstree Hill were encouraged to mould clay into familiar shapes with help from Purple Potters mobile pottery.

Yvonne Wilson, was part of the team who made sunflowers in part of a project to recreate Van Gogh’s Sunflowers.

This is the fourth year the residents have been visited by the art group and have worked on many projects over the years.

This year’s programme has also encouraged the budding artists to get creative by creating their own sea creatures to be displayed in an aquarium they have been working on.

Purple Potters’ Jayne Gill said: “It’s great to be able to come into a home regularly like we do at Hill House and make friends with the residents.

“We love encouraging them to get creative with their designs, use their hands and stay flexible.

“They see that they can make something beautiful and be proud of it and that’s really rewarding.”

Hill House activities coordinator Silvia Shillingford said: “The residents really look forward to the sessions and it’s a lovely way for them to be both active and sociable. Next we’re starting work on a vase of roses inspired by Rembrandt.”
