A restaurant had its licence revoked after a committee heard it breached licence conditions and caused noise complaints.

Guns and Smoke in Church Passage, High Barnet, had its licence revoked for reasons after the hearing heard it did not have compliant CCTV installed or staff trained to use it, it had caused noise complaints and not always had a designated supervisor on site.

The decision came from the licensing sub-committee on July 13, which includes councillors and various officers, with the Metropolitan Police also in attendance.

PC Jane Tuffin said: "The Barnet Borough licensing team has worked alongside Barnet Council and Environmental Health diligently over the last year.

"Every effort to support that management team has failed on engender compliance and commitment to the licensing objectives.

"The incidents of disorder and noise nuisance had such a detrimental effect on the local community that the committee has revoked the premises license entirely."

The committee heard that the noise complaints, three of which led to the serving of noise abatement notices, took place on a number occasions since February 2016, when the two licence holders met with Barnet Council to discuss them.

The most recent NAN was issues in March 2017, but since then complaints were received throughout May and July and no noise limiting devices had been installed.

The committee heard that a number of instances also took place where steak knives and cutlery were left on tables after the time permitted and glass bottles and glasses were brought outside the restaurant on a number of occasions.

It was also said that the restaurant also held a drinks promotion throughout May 2017 which breached their licence conditions as well.

On the decision of the committee, Guns and Smoke will not be permitted to service alcohol from 21 days after the decision was passed, and the licence holders, who were not present at the hearing, have been invited to appeal within this time period if they so choose.
