Barnet's unbeaten pre-season run was brought to a comprehensive end with a 3-1 home defeat to National League South side Concord Rangers on Saturday.

Jordan Cox gave the non-league visitors an early lead when he was left unmarked to head beyond Jamie Stephens.

And they doubled their advantage after half-time, when Lewis Taaffe after another lapse in defending allowed him to guide home a second.

Justin Amaluzor pulled a goal back with five minutes remaining, but Kyron Farrell added a third to give the sixth-tier side a comfortable victory.

Rossi Eames opted to start without top scorer John Akinde, giving Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and new signing Shaquille Coulthirst the chance to impress in attack ahead of the league opener with Forest Green next weekend.

Barnet did start well before falling behind, Jack Taylor and Fumnaya Shomotun both shooting wide in the opening minutes.

Cox did likewise with an aerial effort, but his next attempt was better-placed as he broke the deadlock after latching onto a cross from the right.

Coulthirst and Akpa Akpro both tested the Concord goalkeeper before half-time, but he was beaten after half-time when Shomotun's effort cannoned off the post.

Charlie Clough turned the rebound goalwards only to be denied by the diving goalkeeper, and Coulthirst had the Bees' third bite of the cherry but his shot was cleared off the line.

A carbon copy of the opener would follow from the visitors, leaving Eames likely frustrated at Barnet's inability to learn from their mistakes.

Taaffe was the man to be gifted time and space by the Bees defence to head home this time, doubling their advantage with 17 minutes to go.

Into the final moments, Amaluzor's cool finish after chesting the ball down gave the hosts a hope, only for Farrell to volley home a third from just outside the box with seconds to go.
