A TEMPLE is midway through hosting one of the largest Hare Krishna celebrations in the world.

Up to 60,000 people from across the world come to the Hindu festival hosted at Bhaktivedanta Manor Hare Krishna Temple in Aldenham on Sunday and Tuesday.

The busy event is held to celebrate the advent of Lord Krishna’s birthday and visitors from across the globe attend to take part in the festivities, see the temple and explore the surrounding woodlands.

The temple hosts the biggest celebration of this kind outside of India.

More than 1,500 volunteers will be on hand to help the celebration run smoothly.

There will be children’s activities including face-painting, henna, games and an arts and crafts stand and free vegetarian food will be provided for all visitors.

Resident monk Sutapa Das said: “The festivities communicate the culture and teachings of ancient India in an extremely contemporary way.

“The energy and spirituality created by thousands of people coming together for a single purpose, creates a truly unique atmosphere and inspires every single guest.”

Temple President Srutidharma Das said: “Janmashtami is the biggest festival for Hindus in the year. This festival is celebrated with much jubilance by many temples around the world, but here at Bhaktivedanta Manor, we create a spiritual Disneyland; a day of spectacular festivities for the whole family.”
