A son has appeared in court charged with the murder of his mother and sister at their home in north London.

Joshua Cohen, 27, allegedly stabbed his 66-year-old mother Louise, and sister Hannah, 33, at the family’s £2.5 million home in Golders Green.

Mrs Cohen and her daughter were pronounced dead at the scene when emergency services arrived at around 8.50pm on Friday.

He was tracked down in nearby Golders Hill Park at around 2pm on Saturday after a tip-off from a member of the public.

Cohen had recently shaved off his hair and eyebrows and the police warned people not to approach him.

He appeared at Hendon Magistrates Court on Monday charged with two counts of murder.

Dressed in a grey prison tracksuit, Cohen spoke only to give his name and address and was unrepresented at the brief hearing.

Listing his case for a plea and trial preparation hearing at the Old Bailey on September 11, District Judge Dennis Brennan said: "I know you haven’t got legal representation.

"I would urge you to think about that – being legally represented."

He is due back in court on August 16 for a bail application.
