This week students will pick up exam results that they have been working towards for years.

On Thursday students across the country will be collecting their A level results.

But whatever the results Hertfordshire County Council state that options for young people remain open, whether it’s through education, training or employment.

Cllr Terry Douris for education said: “Good luck to all Hertfordshire students receiving their exam results. I am sure all the hard work will have paid off.

“Whatever the outcome when those envelopes are opened, I’d like to reassure you and your parents that there are plenty of options available.

“Schools will have members of staff available to talk through your choices - whether you’ve exceeded your expectations, had a change of heart about what to do next or if the news isn’t what you hoped.”

Students unable to take a university place they were offered will be able to apply for a new course through the UCAS clearing system, or may be able to re-sit exams if they are not happy with the results.

Many companies also offer apprenticeships which allow young people to continue their education with hands-on experience in a working environment.
