Multi-faith organisations endorsed the peaceful message of leaders after the latest in a "catalogue" of terrorist attacks across Europe.

Barnet Multi Faith Forum chairman Esmond Rosen and co-chairmen of Communities Together Network (CTN) Kiran Vagarwal and Julie Pal released a statement in response to the attacked in Las Ramblas, Barcelona, on August 17 where a van careered into passers-by in the street, before a second attempt saw a woman killed in Cambrils.

The statement read: "Whatever our faith perspective it is important is that we stand together against terrorism and continue to work together to keep Barnet a safe place where people of all faiths and none can live peacefully with their neighbours, share a sense of belonging and are able to go about their daily lives in safety and with peace of mind.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of 14 innocent people, citizens and holidaymakers, who were brutally killed whilst enjoying the pleasures of this global city and the many more who have been injured.

"We endorse the many statements of support for Barcelona including The Prime Minister, the Mayor of London and Deputy Leader of Barnet Council and like them we stand united with Barcelona against the evil of terrorism and give thanks to their brave emergency services and their colleagues in Cambrils whose swift action prevented further terrorist acts."

The groups then called on those affected by hate crimes or racism in the borough to contact police in order to see an end to these types of crimes.

The statement continued: "Barnet will not tolerate any act of hate or and we ask all those living, working and studying in Barnet to seek support and assistance from community groups, faith leaders and the local police if they are the victim of such crimes."
