The wheels are in motion for a politician to take on a public disability challenge.

MP for Hertsmere Oliver Dowden will be travelling up Shenley Road in Borehamwood in a wheelchair to experience how difficult it is for disabled people to get around the town.

The event will take place on Friday, September 22 at 2.30pm.

This comes after Lara Croft, 41, of Crown Road, laid down the gauntlet on Facebook asking for public figures to step forward and take on the challenge.

Mrs Croft suffers from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a degenerative illness which weakens connective tissue in the body, and has said it can take weeks for her to recover from a trip to the high street.

The wheelchair user spoke of the problems facing all people who suffer with mobility in Borehamwood, due to uneven and sloping pavements, market stalls limiting access on certain days and cars parking inappropriately.
