A business breakfast encouraging entrepeneurs to take on apprentices still has room around the table for more managers to join in.

The event to discuss a new tax break given to businesses taking on apprentices will be held at Elstree Studios in Shenley Road, Borehamwood on Wednesday, September 27 from 7.15am to 9.30am.

The new Apprentice Levy, is a scheme where all employers with a turnover of £3million a year or more are being charged 0.5 per cent of their wage bill.

Then these funds are made available via a new digital account to pay for training for apprentices from a recognised provider.

The session is being run by Hertsmere Borough Council, Watford and West Herts Chamber of Commerce and Training Together, a training provider set up by Oaklands College and West Herts College aimed at larger businesses.

Head of Planning and Economic Development Christine Lyons said: “Apprenticeships are going to be increasingly important to the local and national economy.

“There is currently a skills gap in the labour market which means employers can sometimes struggle to fill vacancies. An apprenticeship can enable them to train their staff, so that they respond better to the needs and challenges of their business.

“While for young people apprenticeships are a great way to earn while they learn, especially as the cost of university continues to rise.

“This business breakfast is an opportunity to learn more about the Apprenticeship Levy and what it can do for your business, as well as hear first-hand about the benefits of apprenticeships.

As well as being able to discuss the benefits of the scheme with an apprenticeship and employer, there will be hot and cold drinks available as well as a continental breakfast.
