A youth football team is set to upgrade its kit and equipment after a building company donated hundreds of pounds to the club.

Belstone Football Club, based in Radlett, has been chosen by Persimmon Homes North London to become one of its Healthy Communities winners and will receive a £750 donation.

Owen Sheridan, who set up the Belstone Football Academy last year, believes the money will help “strengthen” the club, which was founded in 1983 and has 200 players of all ages.

He said: “We cannot thank Persimmon Homes enough for its support. The club is continuing to expand and next season we will have nine youth teams at U10, U11, U12, U13, two U14 teams, U15, U16 and U18 and two adult teams.

“We have around 200 players in all, with the majority aged under 21. We also set up the Belstone Football Academy last season for children aged from reception to Year 6 and currently have around 30 to 40 children training every week. We pride ourselves on proving football opportunities for children and adults with no barrier to entry.”

Damian Seddon, director in charge of Persimmon Homes North London, said: “Our Healthy Communities scheme aims to create a real sporting legacy and it is great to see a football club that is inspiring so many youngsters to get out and enjoy their sport.

“If people were unsuccessful last month in their Healthy Communities application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
