A Star Wars fan has been nominated for a special award after raising more than £12,000 for charity.

Special effects creator Neil Ellis spent months collecting autographs of people involved in the Sci-Fi franchise to be auctioned off.

Neil made a unique box in the shape of the iconic Millenium Falcon for the book to be collected in, and managed to get signatures from the stars including the late Carrie Fisher.

The collectible was auctioned off for Sense, a national disability charity which helps deafblind children throughout the country.

Speaking to the Borehamwood Times earlier in the year Neil said: ““I didn’t have a charity in mind when I started, but as I saw the great work Sense do with deafblind children and it felt relevant to the project.

“As a kid Star Wars fuels your imagination, and deafblind children cannot appreciate what we take for granted.

“Getting Kenny Baker and Carrie Fisher’s signatures was great, as they were always so kind to their fans, and now these autographs are precious.”

The annual Sense Awards celebrate the contribution of volunteers, staff, fundraisers, campaigners and partners who support the complex needs of deafblind children.
