We review Miller & Carter in Muswell Hill...

It used to be a church, but thanks to some pretty magnificent interior design it’s now one of London’s best steak restaurants.

The moment you step in to Miller & Carter in Muswell Hill you feel like you’re in a classy central London joint full of character, style and elegance.

The décor is brimming sophistication but many of the Presbyterian church’s original features have remained, including the stained glass windows.

My eyes are always bigger than my stomach when it comes to steak but I can never resist the starters.

We went for the sticky chipotle chicken (£5.75) which were tasty, tender and ridiculously moreish. Even though we were planning on overdosing on meat for our mains, we couldn’t resist the pulled brisket croquettes (£6.50). Topped with a generous dollop of lemon aioli, they were heaven.

I have to admit, when it comes to steak I’m always a little dubious. I like mine rare but it’s usually served blue or medium rare by the time it arrives.

But my sirloin topped with béarnaise (£16.95) was so tender you could cut it with a spoon and was cooked to absolute perfection.

My friend ordered the grain fed rib eye (£18.95) well done (I know, I know, I rolled my eyes too) which went down really well.

It comes served with a wedge of refreshing lettuce which you can customise with a free sauce of your choice, from bacon & honey mustard to classic cocktail with croutons and garlic mayonnaise.

But no steak dinner would be complete without fries…and sides. We had chips and sweet potato fries, then after much deliberation, chose some healthy veggies.

The garlic & parmesan tender stream broccoli (£3.50) and garlic button mushrooms (£2.75) were so good I couldn’t resist going back for more, even though I was full up.

We thought we were full, but by the time the desert menu came around, we simply couldn’t resist. We went for a raspberry crème brulée (£4.95), which was an amazing a unique twist on the classic.

So what will it be: rare, medium or well done?
