Though the summer holidays are over and the fight to get beach body ready may be finished for the year, a goal to get international people active has been put to action.

The European Week of Sport kicked off on the weekend to promote the benefits off sports and physical activity across the continent.

Last year the scheme run by the European Commission had 10 million participants in thousands of events in more than 30 countries.

This led to the message #BeActive reaching 200 million Europeans, and this year people are being encouraged to get involved regardless of age, background, or fitness ability.

Over the weekend the focus was on getting people outdoors and focus on the sports club, but there will be different themes across the week, including a focus on mindfulness, fitness and heart health.
