A community fun day is coming to town for its first year after securing funding.

The Grange Big Local's Fun Palace will be a community festival with free events all day this Sunday, with everything from live music to model building, cooking workshops to zombie workshops.

The event's inaugural year has come after the Grange Big Local, a community association awarded £1 million of lottery funding, decided to put the funds towards a fun day for the people, at which they will be available to take ideas from the public as to how to spend the money.

The idea for a Fun Palace came from theatre director Joan Littlewood back in the 1960s, but the idea was realised just three years ago by the author Stella Duffy.

Both woman wanted to put community into the heart of culture, to gather people together to share their passions and talents, and inspire people to have a go at something new.

Also on show will be the North London Ukelele Club, arts and crafts with East Finchley Open Artists, and I Can Dance troupe, who will be giving people the chance to try out their best moves.

The Big Grange Local's Fun Palace will be open from 12pm on October 8, all are welcome.
