Keith Rowland's Wingate were unlucky to lose 1-0 at Tonbridge Angels on Saturday in front of a packed crowd at Longmead,

The North Londoners had the first chance when Nathan Mavila fired over from a tight angle, and 18 minutes in Tonbridge responded with Alex Akrofi failing to test Luke Sheldrick.

He would face a greater examination from Luke Blewden's strike soon after, while Mavila's shooting boots again deserted him at the other end as he acrobatically diverted Reece Beckles-Richard's cross over the bar.

The Blues would strike the post with the move of the game, as Ahmet Rifat's outside-of-the-boot cross was struck goalwards by Sean Cronin, only to bounce away to safety when the move alone deserved to bring about the opener.

After half-time the Angels took the lead in an even encounter, when Akrofi picked up a loose ball and fired it home.

Daniel Thompson could have made it two soon after, before Sheldrick stopped the hosts extending their lead with a stunning stop from the same player's header.

As the game entered its final 10 minutes, Rob Laney's header from Ola Williams' cross was clawed away, before he fired over from a good position in the last 90 seconds.

Wingate: Sheldrick, Williams, Dickson, Pearce, Cronin, Rifat, Mavila, Ifil (Pattie 75), Laney, Beckles-Richards, Tejan-Sie.
