To begin I must confess, I am not usually one for the spa treatment.

My colleague, as seasoned pamperee, is very much the expert on how this is supposed to go, but for me, all I end up doing is overthinking about whether I should be more relaxed or posing in the right way. Frankly, I’m rather awkward.

I very much need to be hand-held through these things, so when I went to Sorbet in Temple Fortune Parade, Temple Fortune, I was rather frightened.

On arrival I immediately realised there is absolutely no need for such fears. The salon was incredibly inviting; the staff were welcoming and offered me a brew, which came with a Bourbon (result) and asked me about my facial regime, which is underwhelming at best.

Times Series:

They talked me through the Sorbet Grande Facial, explaining I would have my skin exfoliated and they would use toners, cleansers, creams and oils as well as massaging my face and shoulders to give me the ultimate spa experience.

The staff were considerate and open with clients - a “walk-in” who was asking questions about treatments received expert advice on which treatments could suit him, delivered with understanding and patience.

I was led through to the treatment room and my therapist, Valentina, A first facial at brand new salon was incredibly kind. She was gentle, full of expertise and even stayed late to give me advice on how to make my skin the best it can be.

I closed my eyes and enjoyed fragrances of lavender oils which I breathed in deeply to send me into a more relaxed state. The events of the day melted away as I felt calm and cosy in a luxurious blanket.

Times Series:

From there my skins was covered in ointments of various kinds and massaged - I even had an extra foot, leg, hand and arm massage while a deep, hydrating mask did its magic on my face.

By the end, keeping my eyes open was almost impossible as I was felt so relaxed I could have dozed off; they could barely stay open as I got in the car to drive home (safety first, kids.) And my face was soft, smooth, almost glowing with enrichment afterwards and I was not left with any oily residue from the products.

All in all, if every spa treatment is like this one, I would happily make it a regular investment as Sorbet really delivers on the content of their treatments, the quality of the products they use and the wonderful people who make you feel completely at ease from the moment you walk in.

Even for an awkward spa-goer, this one gets two big thumbs up.
