Despite taking to the stage in Chichester Festival Theatre's Fiddler on the Roof this summer, comedian and performer Omid Djalili has not broken a sweat as he returns for new dates of his stand-up show, Schmuck for a Night, having performed 110 dates earlier in the year.

For Omid, continuing the show after a break has not stopped him from giving out the best gags, though for him he'll be excited to get back to responding to heckles he missed out in the earlier dates.

"I had to come back. There are heckles dating back to October 2016 that I still need to respond to," he says.

"All my material is frozen immediately after it's written so it's always fresh."

Having said this, there are changes in the set for the new dates as, in his own words, "some of it thawed and was starting to smell." Delicious.

But stand up is not all that Omid has been up to - extra to his dates as Tevye in Chichester this summer, he was involved in a live action Disney film of The Nutcracker late last year, and had a great time meeting a very special actress.

He says: "Helen Mirren was with us for a day and was very nurturing and motherly. Especially towards me.

When she noticed I was uncomfortable and kept tugging at the groin area of my trousers she advised me never to run out of clean underwear and avoid wearing my teenage son’s swimming trunks a). because they are too small and b). chlorine from the swimming pool will always cause itching.

"I’ll never forget that. Amazing woman."

But Omid was honoured to return to the stage for his stand-up show, which he calls a "comedy rollercoaster" though reminds us all that we must meet the height requirement to get in.

Omid Djalili: Schmuck for a Night comes to the artsdepot in Nether Street, Finchley, N12 0GA on December 9.
