A man who received 11 tickets on his minibus has been vindicated after the tickets were found to have been wrongly given.

William Simpson, who has a 15-seater minibus, was fined for supposedly circumventing the ban to park commercial vehicles overnight.

However, as his vehicle does not weigh five tonnes or more, this policy does not apply to him and the tickets he received were unjustly given.

Mr Simpson did not appeal any of the tickets but did speak to his local councillor.

However, to his horror, he was sent letters and had bailiffs knocking on his door early in the morning, all of which took its toll on his mental health, until finally his vehicle was taken away.

Since he spoke with blogger and parking expert Mr Mustard, the situation has been resolved.

Mr Simpson said: “I live alone and this assault made me very depressed so that in the end, after some correspondence, I just could not open these cascading letters.”

He added that after his van was taken all that was left was “a scrap of paper” which barely described what had happened to the van.

Derek Dishman, who blogs under the alias Mr Mustard, said: “This story is a miscarriage of justice.

“If you don’t defend yourself any penalty charge notice becomes valid by default.”

A Barnet Council spokesperson said: “Barnet Council has cancelled all of the penalty charge notices and instructed our contractors to cease all enforcement action on this case.

“In addition to this, the council has arranged for the vehicle to be released, refunding any monies already paid.”
