A new Thameslink station has been given its name.

The Thameslink station, as part of Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration scheme, is to be called Brent Cross West after a vote from Barnet council's assets, regeneration and growth committee.

Developers Argent Related were taken on to engage with community groups for the station's naming, and councillors voted in favour of the name at committee.

Cllr Daniel Thomas, deputy leader and chairman of the assets, regeneration and growth committee, said: "During the consultation process it became quite clear the area was already well-known as Brent Cross and given the station is located to the west of Brent Cross, it was considered Brent Cross West was the most appropriate name.

"The naming of this station forms part of the largest scheme in the borough, which will also see the redevelopment and expansion of Brent Cross Shopping Centre, the development of a new, mixed use quarter to its south with a concentration of new residential and office space."

The regeneration will see 151 hectares be transformed into a sustainable town centre, costing £4.5 billion and will bring 7,500 new homes and the creation of up to 27,000 new jobs.
