When the wintry winds come in there's nothing better than cuddling up in front of a fire (or radiator, depending on your preferred heater) with a delicious winter warmer.

Now cooking the perfect coach cuddlers has been made easy as chef and food writer Denise Phillips has released her newest cookbook, with the help of celebrity comedy actress Maureen Lipman to launch it.

Denise was hard pressed to pick her favourite recipe from the book, but eventually whittled it down to mandelbrot, which are Jewish cookies.

"I love all the recipes as I can not write recipes that I don’t like to eat, but I can always find room to munch on the manelbrot," she says.

"I never get bored of the seabass with pistachio crumbs and on a cold winter’s day I do enjoy the warmth of the sweet potato and chick pea soup."

Denise has not only created a book of delicious recipes (her seventh) but is also hoping to support a good cause after he father passed away.

"I chose Chai Cancer Care as very sadly my father died of bowel and lung cancer in August 2006 - he also loved to cook."

Her love of cooking may have been genetic as Denise decided to follow a career in the culinary arts. She trained at Leiths School of Food and Wine and has been experimenting with Jewish cooking for more than 25 years.

She says: "I love to cook, love to be creative and love the joy of sitting around a table with my new creations."

But of all her recipes and foods, which is the best comfort food for a cold winter's evening? According to Denise, it's hazelnut beef stew followed by scrumptious berry and almond tart. Delicious.
