An incident with both national and local implications took place in March, when Barnet's MPs were among 300 kept inside the Houses of Parliament after a suspected terrorist incident.

A knife attack on a police officer outside the Houses of Parliament took place on March 23, and as the Barnet Borough Times went to press we were able to speak to Matthew Offord, MP for Hendon, who was in lockdown in the chamber.

He said: "They have asked everyone to stay here and the Leader of the House said there had been an incident where they believe an individual with a knife has been shot by police after injuring a police officer.

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, released the following statement: "There’s a major security alert in Parliament and all MPs are in lock-down in the House of Commons chamber. My sympathies go to the injured officer."

Mr Freer, MP for Finchley and Golders Green, was unavailable for comment.
