More than 50 firefighters were called to a restaurant fire on Christmas Day.

Crews, including eight fire engines, were called to Abshar Restaurant on High Road in North Finchley at around 5.20 am.

Firefighters found the ground floor of the restaurant well alight but had to force their way into the shop next door to put out the fire, using special cutting gear.

The fire was under control by 8.41am.

There were no reports of any injuries and the cause of the fire is being investigated. The mobile phone shop which crews gained access through was also badly damaged by the fire.
