The 16-year-old arrested for the murder of a Mill Hill shopkeeper has been charged.

The boy, from the borough of Brent, will appear at Willesden Magistrates' Court today (January 10) after his arrest on January 8.

Vijay Patel, 49, was assaulted before 11.45pm on January 6 outside his workplace, Rota Express, in The Broadway, Mill Hill.

Police say he and another shopkeeper were assaulted at work.

Mr Patel was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service, but died there on January 7.

The other shopkeeper had minor injuries.

Two fundraising pages have been created for Mr Patel's family, which are at a combined total of around £17,000 currently.

The community also plans to hold a vigil in memory of Mr Patel, which will take place on Saturday evening.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are still attempting to track down any witnesses to the incident, or anyone who may know any suspects or their whereabouts.
