Inspectors have praised aspects of care at a struggling health trust after it received “Good” ratings for three of its core services.

Healthcare watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC) published a report on North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) this week following inspections in October.

The report rated community health services for both adults and children, as well as end of life care at the trust “Good”.

Inspectors found staff across all services inspected to generally be caring and compassionate to patients.

However, the report did criticise the safety of trust’s adult community health services, where it noted agency nurses were not checked for competency.

Despite the generally positive report, NELFT still retains a “requires improvement” rating overall, which it received after an inspection in September 2016.

The trust provides community and mental health care in Waltham Forest and Redbridge from its adult rehabilitation centre in Larkshall Road, Chingford, and several other clinics in Ilford.

Paul Lelliott, CQC deputy chief inspector for mental health, said: “We found a good standard of care throughout the three core services we inspected at NELFT.

“It was particularly pleasing to see that the trust was rated Good in all categories CQC inspects for community health services for children, young people and families."

“I look forward to NELFT producing even better results in future inspections.”
