A hospice is calling for local volunteers to take on shifts in one of its charity shops.

St Clare Hospice needs members of the public to give up some of their time to help out in its Epping High Street store.

More than 230 people, aged between 16 and 92, already volunteer in the Hastingwood hospice’s eight charity shops across west Essex and east Hertfordshire.

Danielle Spicer, who has been helping in the Debden St Clare shop for more than two years, said: “Volunteering in a St Clare charity shop is an easy way to help people, and a nice little job to have.

“I’ve made so many good friends just from working here – both colleagues and customers. There’s such a happy atmosphere here because we are all close, and we get on all the time.

“It’s hard to put into words; it’s like one big family here.”
