A barista has been named the best in 2017 by a coffee chain.

Kinga Sobczynska, 21, who has worked for five months in Brent Cross Shopping Centre's Costa Coffee, beat other coffee servers from around the world to be named Costa Coffee's 2017 Barista of the Year.

Ms Sobczynska had to show off her pouring talent and signature drink invention to a panel of judges, include celebrity chef Phil Vickery.

She said: "I’m still in shock that I have won! The whole journey has been amazing and it was such an honour to even make the final and meet other baristas from all around the world.

"I’m very grateful to my trainers, family, friends, and everyone who got involved and who have given me so much support along the way."

Ms Sobczynska's final test was to make a technically perfect cup of handmade coffee, which was enough to get her to coveted crown.

Mr Vickery said: "This is my fourth year of judging Barista of the Year competition. I am always so astounded by the outstanding skill, knowledge and dedication displayed by all the finalists and this year was no exception.

"I have been particularly impressed with the baristas’ creativity in making and developing their speciality drinks for us today and presenting themselves in such a confident and engaging manner."
