Proposals have been made to create a toucan crossing at a busy roundabout.

Transport for London (TFL) has released plans to introduce a crossing on the A1 Barnet Way at Stirling Corner in Borehamwood, which will allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross safely at the same time.

Currently, there are traffic lights on the roundabout but they do not allow people to cross the whole road safely.

TFL say that the new crossing will provide better and safer access to shops and facilities in Borehamwood as well as residential streets between Barnet Lane and Barnet Road.

On average, toucan crossings are 4ft wider than a pelican or puffin crossing so the existing carriageway will need to be widened.

The pavement will also need to be resurfaced. The new pavement will be textured to assist people who may be visually impaired. No vegetation will be removed.

Subject to official confirmation of funding, TFL say the crossing could be in place by the end of 2019.

The public are invited to express their views and thoughts on the proposals.
