Parents are being offered the chance to hear what TV may be doing to their children.

Hendon Prep School in Tenterden Grove is giving a free talk to parents about managing time with the TV.

Dr Aric Sigman, a child psychologist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology will be presenting the talk to the parents.

Headmaster Mark Lloyd-Williams said: “Maintaining the health and wellbeing of pupils is essential to their academic development.

“Parents often hear about the dangers of increasing children’s screen time, but little is said about what parents can do to prevent such issues from occurring.

“Dr Sigman will get to the heart of the problem and share how parents can combat and avoid them from occurring in the first place.”

The talk will cover the effects that watching TV, computer or tablet can have on children such as impacting their attention span, brain development, literacy and academic achievement.

Dr Sigman’s talk is part of a series of free speaker events being run by Hendon Prep School which focuses on topical areas of child and teenage wellbeing issues including tackling sleeplessness and body image.

The free talks will give parents the opportunity to hear first-hand from experts about some of the most pressing issues affecting children today.

It is being held at Hendon Prep School on Wednesday May 2.
